Your design stays in Canada
A drawing is your intellectual property. Sending it out to get a quote should not put it at risk. Here, in plain terms, is how Made to Spec protects your design, and what we deliberately do not do with it. For the full compliance reference a procurement or security team needs, see trust and data handling.
It never leaves the Canadian supply chain
Made to Spec is Canadian-owned and Canadian-operated, with no foreign corporate parent that could pull your data under another jurisdiction. Your files sit on Canadian infrastructure, are governed by Canadian law, and are routed only to Canadian shops. Your drawing is never sent offshore to be quoted. Why the difference between where a file sits and whose laws govern it matters is covered in data residency vs. data sovereignty.
Shared only on a need-to-know basis
A drawing you upload is used for one purpose: to match and route your RFQ to capable Canadian shops. A shop sees your files only when your job is actually routed to it, and only the files it needs to quote. It is not broadcast to a crowd of bidders, not published, not sold, and not used to train AI models. Access inside Made to Spec is limited to the people running concierge matching.
Encrypted on upload
Your drawing travels to us over an encrypted HTTPS connection, so it is not exposed in transit from your browser. We ask only for the file needed to quote the job, nothing more.
We'll sign your NDA
If your work needs a non-disclosure agreement in place first, send it to compliance@madetospec.ca and we will sign yours before you send any files. A mutual NDA is a normal part of sourcing sensitive work, and we treat it as one.
Controlled goods, handled right
If your part or its drawings are controlled goods, tell us before you upload. Controlled work is routed only to CGP-registered Canadian shops, and we surface a shop's Controlled Goods Program registration on its record so it can be checked rather than assumed. Our own handling of controlled technical data is detailed on the trust page.
Deleted when the job is done
We keep a drawing for as long as your RFQ is active plus a limited window for follow-up quoting, then it is purged on our standard schedule. You can ask us to delete a file sooner, or to confirm deletion, at any time at compliance@madetospec.ca. We do not keep your IP around longer than the job needs it.
What we will never do
- Route your files to an offshore shop or a foreign broker.
- Sell, rent or share your data with anyone outside your RFQ.
- Use your drawings to train AI models.
- Publish your design, or show it to shops your job was not routed to.
The honest limits
We will not oversell this. Made to Spec is not a zero-knowledge vault: real people on the concierge team handle your file to match your job, and we keep it only as long as the job needs. What actually protects a drawing in sourcing is Canadian ownership, Canadian-only routing, need-to-know access, and prompt deletion, and that is what we commit to, rather than marketing claims we do not run. For controlled goods or highly sensitive designs, talk to us first and, where it matters, consult qualified Canadian counsel.
